How a Stump Grinding Job Works in Portland, TN

Four steps, start to finish. No surprises in the middle, no upsell at the end - just a stump that's there when we start and gone below grade when we leave.

What we need from you before we arrive

Clear access to the stump helps the most - move vehicles, patio furniture, or anything else out of the path if you can, and let us know ahead of time about any buried irrigation lines, invisible dog fences, or septic lines near the stump. We'll call before pulling in so you're not caught off guard by a truck and trailer showing up in the driveway.

If you're not going to be home, that's fine as long as we've got clear instructions on where to grind and somewhere to leave the invoice or a way to reach you if a question comes up mid-job.

What happens with the grindings

By default we leave the wood grindings in a pile near the hole, since a lot of folks want them for mulch or to fill the hole themselves over time as it settles. If you'd rather we haul them off or spread them out thin across the yard instead, just say so when you book - either one's a normal request and doesn't complicate the job.

Step 1 — You call or send photos

Tell us how many stumps, roughly how big around, and what the access looks like - gravel drive, tight side yard, open field, whatever it is. A photo or two texted over usually gets you a solid ballpark number without us having to drive out first, though we're happy to come look in person if the job's complicated or you'd rather we just see it.

Step 2 — We quote it straight

You get a real number, not a lowball that turns into three add-on charges once we're on site. If there's something that could change the price - a stump that's bigger than described, roots wrapped around a water line, ground too soft for the machine - we'll tell you that up front as a possibility, not spring it on you halfway through.

Step 3 — We show up and grind

On the scheduled day, we bring the right-sized machine for your job, get it positioned carefully around anything nearby - fences, beds, sprinkler heads, driveways - and grind the stump and major root flare down below grade. Most residential stumps take under an hour once we're set up; bigger or multiple stumps take longer, and we'll have told you that going in.

Step 4 — We clean up and you check it

We rake the grindings level, clear the loose debris off hard surfaces, and leave the area ready to fill, seed, or mulch, whichever you're planning. Before we leave, we'll walk it with you if you want a look, and you're free to ask about anything - it's your yard when we're done, not a job site.
