What we price on a back-lot stump
Trunk diameter measured at the widest point, not at the cut. Wood type. Then everything between the trailer and the stump: gate width, slope, the condenser pad, whether the ground will carry a machine or needs boards, and how far the chips have to travel if you want them gone.
On a pie lot the last item is the one that surprises people. Carrying grindings a hundred and twenty feet by barrow to a trailer at the curb is real time. Leaving them spread at the back of the lot costs nothing, which is why we always ask rather than assume.
River birch counts as three stumps, not one
There are a lot of river birch in this subdivision, and they were nearly all planted as multi-stem clumps. When one dies you are not looking at a single trunk, you are looking at three or four stems fused at the base, each with its own root mass, sitting in one shallow crater.
Grinding a clump takes longer than a single trunk of the same overall spread because we have to work each stem down separately and then clean out the fused center. It is still one job and one price, but if you send a photo, get the whole base in frame so the number we quote is the right one.
